relationships attachment expert

I am a Bilingual Licensed Professional Counselor Psychologist serving the Northern Virginia and Washington, DC metropolitan area (Virginia Professional License #0701004872 Exp. 06/30/2015).  With almost 10 years in the counseling field, I believe my own personal journey as well as my professional intuition and extensive training are the main skills I possess to help people improve their lives. I work with individuals, couples, families and groups from different backgrounds and situations, helping them not only to solve problems but to have more fulfilling lives.

I have a Master’s degree in Professional Counseling Psychology from the American School of Professional Psychology (ASPP) at Argosy University in Washington, DC, a Bachelors’ Degree in Social Science and Communications from University of Piura, Peru, and a vast post graduate training and experience in human development, social behavior and neuroscience. I consider myself a long-life learner and believe in the importance of continuing education. Thus, I regularly seek out continued professional training to stay current on the latest science and best practices for treatment.

Post Licensure Education Programs
After graduating, I continued my clinical education by becoming a fellow at the Washington DC Psychoanalytic Institute and pursuing the Trauma Certificate at the Institute for Advance Psychotherapy Training and Education, Inc. in Maryland.  I have also completed the PAIRS Relationship Mastery Program, a couple’s marriage enrichment class and continue to deepen my knowledge of Attachment, Imago and Emotionally Focus Therapy, theories I combined to better help couples and people trying to improve their relationships. I have completed training as an Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing (EMDR) therapist and the Internal Family Systems Model training to become an IFS practitioner.
During my growth as a therapist I became more and more passionate about Attachment Theory since I realized that in many cases such as addictions, depression and anxiety, relationships problems, parenting, and self esteem, the underlying issue was attachment. Therefore, as an attachment expert, the most recent additions to my tool box include The Developmental Needs Meeting Strategy-DNMS  (an Ego State Therapy for Healing Adults with Childhood Trauma & Attachment Wounds), EMDR-Attachment Focused for healing Relational Trauma, and SATe Somatic Experiencing-based attachment repair program. All my training incorporate the latest research on neurobiology and the integrated brain since my goal is to practice therapy that produced long-term results.
Therefore, that includes deeper experiential approaches such as IFS (Internal Family Systems), EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing) and DNMS  (The Developmental Needs Meeting Strategy) among others.

In addition to my private practice, I have worked with community centers, goverment agencies and I am affiliated with hospitals and inpatient treatment centers across the country to better serve the needs of my clients.  I also like to write and present seminars and psychoeducational worshops to schools, parents, young adults, and local organizations.  If you would like to know more, please visit my website at www.dcvacounseling-psychotherapy.com or contact me.

“When I decided to become a therapist, I did it as part of my own journey in search of happiness and fulfillment. As I worked my way through many years of studies, every expert and study concludes that the ultimate source of happiness is in relationships. Since then, I became intrigued and passionate about them; this is how I came upon the theory of attachment.

I realized that there was a way to identify the problem and its origins, but that it was a whole different story to solve it. This led me to further investigation and experts who have dedicated their lives and talents to the development of treatment modalities which can help us repair the wounding that relationship problems cause in the first place and show us what a healthy relationship looks like and how to achieve it. Now that we finally have a more scientific understanding of what love is and how to have it in our lives as a source of happiness and health, as it should be, I feel a strong desire to share this information so everybody can enjoy it.” from Preface
